Visual Language 2

Good ol' Ian with his camera. Trusty little man. :)

Another amazing session! It all kinda feels a little babyish, but it's so cool! Illustrating words and such, using minimal media. It's so tough not to use literally imagery. That's one major problem I have I'm ashamed to say. But hey. It's all good practise.
This session, we wrote down 5 verbs and 5 adjectives. I can't even remember what I wrote, so I shan't go down that path. So yeah, we wrote them down, then stuck them all in the randomizer. We 'randomly' picked one of each, and basically had to do exactly what we done last week... use the coloured paper to create those words. It was a bit more tricky today though, considering we had two words to work with at the same time.

'Happy roll'

'Clapping run'

We then all had the word 'dog', and had to pick an adjective. To clarify, I can't draw dogs to save my life. To start off with, I drew a wiggly tail...? See. I can't draw. :( And just as I thought they would, people guessed this to be a 'fat dog'. GRR.
'boring dog'

I then chose the word 'snake'. So again, we picked another adjective and put the two words together. 'Snake shout'

Visual Literacy

Ok, so we've been asked to gather examples of metaphors, synecdoches, and metonyms. From looking at the worksheet I got with the descriptions on, I kinda doodled a few examples Fred gave us. As an example.. the Statue of Liberty's a visual synecdoche because when you look at it, you think of New York. The same goes for say, a baguette. We think of France, don't we? Even though every county has them. Well, the thing I don't get is, a baguette could be used as a synecdoche, a metaphor, and a metonym. (I think anyway) So really, anything can be used as all three of those words.
Anyway, enough of the jabbering.. here's a few examples I found..

Visual Metaphors

These are awesome advertisements! They're really quite self explainatory. But, as I'm nice, I'll give a little definition. :)
Basically, they're both French Aids Campaigns. The metaphor is simple = Unprotected Sex is 'like' being in bed with a venomous insects. Scary, disgusting but effective, and it's the emotional hook that people connect with.

Here's another one...

Here, the metaphor again is fun and clear = Driving a Rover is 'like' having a lion as a pet. The playful juxtaposition works well. Again... a simple and effective approach that can only exist in a parallel world, yet delightfully explains the world that we live in.

Visual Metonyms

Croissants. Any average person would automatically associate them with France. They don't look Frenchy... so why?? Everyone likes them. Every country likes them. Hm.

12.05... it's the weekend! :D

Finally!! It's officially the weekend! :') Can't wait for the lie in tomorrow!!!! Not gonna be an awfully massive one. Let's just say, I won't be getting up at 7! AAH! :D
Need to town it asap, come home, and do le work! After some foam board too. Hmpf.
So yeah. This projects been another bit of a bum. Found out today that the posters can't work as one. Arrrrgh! So I've had to change it.... AGAIN! No worries though. I got the brain in top speedos! It WILL be done for Monday, and I WON'T be re-doing it!
Look out for the finished pieces! :O
The crit...
Didn't like it too much. Ok, so I prefer doing what we did to standing in front of everyone and talking. But hey. I dunno.

Oh what a lovely evening!

Dawn's birthday meal. :) I thought it deserved to be on here.
Was such a GORGEOUS burger! MMM.......

Visual Language

This lesson was sooooooo fun! :D
Basically, we picked a word out of the randomizer, and had to create it using red, yellow, blue and while paper. We could only use squares, lines, type, and colour to represent them.
Admitidly I found it quite hard to begin with, but once I got going, I was well away!! It was quite interesting seeing people's attempts. Especially for the word I stuck in the randomizer.. jelly! HA! Bless.
Here's some of my favourites..

Right, so there they are. And in order, the words were..
1. Lost
2. Mirror
3. Excited
Ok, so I've been told to put Boysie's name under this. What a gay boy!
(I stole it)

'Botox is great!'

Here's a few examples of the work I produced which advertise botox.
After making a quick example for a fact, opinion, open question and a closed question, I began brainstorming symbols to do with my subject. Then I randomly put symbols and either a fact, opinion... etc together to form these!!

Basically, I chose to focus on how botox is used for medical conditions like headaches. After reseaching my chosen subject, I found the images below. I wanted to include what botox actually looks like, so again, I brainstormed more ideas. I then came to the idea of it looking like party poppers and string. These are my reasons for using it in the above piece of work.
I found the way in which we worked really useful. Although my ideas aren't brilliant, it was a great way to make sure all the bad ideas came out first. I did struggle to begin with, but once I had my first one sorted, I was on a roll!

Other people's work...

This are some awesome ideas!!
